Jacob Carrera Named September Firefighter of the Month

The Mobile Fire-Rescue Department for proudly announces Jacob Carrera as the September 2026 Firefighter of the Month. Since joining the MFRD in 2025, Firefighter Carrera has consistently demonstrated initiative, professionalism, and a willingness to contribute beyond the normal expectations of his position.

From his first day on the job, Firefighter Carrera has exhibited an unprecedented work ethic and a positive “can-do” attitude. He remains hyper-focused on the seemingly mundane and often overlooked details of a firefighter's duties, while continually searching for opportunities to learn and improve.

While these qualities alone make him a valuable member of Engine 12, his recent contribution to the development of MFRD’s tower rescue capabilities is what truly sets him apart. Prior to joining the Mobile Fire-Rescue Department, Firefighter Carrera gained significant experience climbing and working on radio and cellular towers. With MFRD developing a new Tower Rescue curriculum, Firefighter Carrera recognized an opportunity to use his previous experience for the benefit of the department and its Technical Rescue Team.

Going well beyond his regular duties and expectations of a firefighter, Carrera led the development, implementation, and delivery of an in-service training program, focused on newly-acquired, tower rescue equipment and entry-level, tower rescue skills. He served as one of the lead instructors, preparing and conducting training for members of MFRD’s Technical Rescue Team. Carrera's involvement provided the department with valuable real-world knowledge and experience in an area of technical rescue still in its infancy.

Rather than hording valuable knowledge, Carrera willingly shared his experience and know-how with the Department, assisted with the introduction of new equipment, and established a foundation for future tower rescue operations. Firefighter Carrera represents the type of service member who not only works to improve himself, but also, uses his skills to improve those around him.
