At approximately 11:42 AM, #MFRD companies responded to the 300 block of North Lafayette Street for a reported residence on fire in the area.
Upon arrival, Engine 8 confirmed a single-story house presenting with a large amount of flames and black smoke. Occupants safely evacuated prior to the arrival of responders.
Crews entered the structure for an immediate, interior attack. Due to the threat of potential structural collapse and out of an abundance of caution for firefighter safety, suppression teams exited the home and briefly switched to a defensive strategy early in the operation. Once an adequate water source was secured, teams re-entered the structure and aggressively battled back the blaze.
Thankfully, no civilians or fire personnel were injured as a result of the incident. The structure sustained significant flame, smoke, and water damage. Investigators continue to review the scene in efforts to determine the cause.
Job well done, E8, E3, E9, E14, T4, R14, D1 Chief, D3 Chief, and Rehab 1.
