Firefighter of the Month

June McMahon Named February Firefighter of the Month

Apr 2nd, 2026

Long, JuneThe Mobile Fire-Rescue Department proudly recognizes Fire Service Driver June Long as the February 2026 Firefighter of the Month. Driver Long joined the MFRD in September of 2021 and promoted in rank Fall of 2025.

Through her budding career, Long has proven consistently dependable, caring, capable, and skilled. Firefighters regularly face challenging, emergency situations, but facing these challenges in the heart of a Mardi Gras ball compound situations exponentially. Being able to adequately manage an emergency scene and assess a patient while engulfed by dozens of alcohol-fueled party-goers, incredibly loud music, and poor communications takes talent, a calm presence, and focused mind.

Driver Long presented exactly those qualities during a Mardi Gras event, when she jumped to action to care for someone who had reportedly experienced multiple seizures. While protecting the patient from potential injury, Long, in a ball gown, calmly controlled the scene and gathered vital details, including patient history and events leading up to the incident.

Additionally, Driver Long assessed the venue layout and crowd in order to arrange for a means to move the patient to an inbound transport unit. While maintaining a command presence, she performed initial patient assessment and care, solved logistical issues, and arranged for appropriate transport while in a very challenging environment.

Fire Chief Glisson praised, “Driver Long epitomizes everything we want to see in our firefighters.”
