MPRD Track & Field Celebrates an Outstanding 2026 Season

The Mobile Parks and Recreation Track & Field Program celebrated an outstanding 2026 season, earning the USATF Alabama Outstanding Program honor and a championship at the USATF Alabama Association Track & Field Championships. With 17 athletes qualifying for the USATF National Junior Olympic Championships, the team continues to build on a strong tradition of excellence under the leadership of Coach Janell Hickman and the MPRD coaching staff.

The Mobile Parks and Recreation Department (MPRD) Track & Field program celebrated an outstanding 2026 season, highlighting the impact of dedication, mentorship, and community support. Under the leadership of Coach Janell Hickman, the program continues to provide young athletes with opportunities to compete and grow.

This season, the MPRD Track & Field program was recognized as the USATF Alabama Outstanding Program, honoring the team’s commitment to youth development and athletic excellence. This achievement reflects the dedication of the athletes, coaches, and families who continue to build a strong foundation for success.

At the USATF Alabama Association Track & Field Championships, MPRD captured the team championship with 1,456 points, earning 34 gold medals, 19 silver medals, and 9 bronze medals. The team continued its success at the USATF Region 6 Qualifying Meet in Collierville, Tennessee, where 27 athletes competed against top qualifiers from Alabama, Mississippi, and Tennessee. MPRD athletes earned 2 gold medals, 14 silver medals, and 5 bronze medals, with 17 athletes qualifying for the 2026 USATF National Junior Olympic Championships in Norwalk, California.

The success of the program is a reflection of the commitment and leadership of Coach Janell Hickman, along with coaches Dequel Robinson, Charles Wilson, Jailynn Brewer, Iyana Johnson, and Lawiltaye Robinson. Through their guidance and mentorship, athletes are encouraged to develop confidence, discipline, and a commitment to continuous improvement.

More than medals and championships, the MPRD Track & Field program represents The Power of Play by creating a place where young athletes can build relationships, discover their potential, and receive the support needed to succeed.
