GulfChats

February 19, 2026
12:00pm-12:30pm

We are excited to welcome Della Scott-Ireton, Associate Director of Florida Public Archaeology Network at the University of West Florida February 19th at noon! Della will explore the rich maritime history of Northwest Florida through its shipwrecks. Her talk will highlight how these submerged sites from early colonial-era vessels to more recent wrecks offer important insights into trade, warfare, coastal life, and preservation challenges in the Gulf. Drawing on her extensive experience in public archaeology, she will also discuss how shipwrecks are documented, protected, and shared with the public as irreplaceable cultural resources. This lecture offers a fascinating look at Florida’s underwater heritage and the stories hidden beneath its coastal waters. Be sure to plan to take a look at the GulfChats lineup for 2026! Parking is free on-site and museum admission is not required to attend GulfChats. For your convenience, you may pre-order lunch from Fresh Fruit Cafe located in the lobby of our museum by calling the restaurant at 251-277-1696. Feel free to browse the menu options here.
